Surviving the Monsoon

{articulo original para Google+}

Rain in Singapore is like sunshine in Sydney, or cars and traffic in Mexico City; it's another colourful part of the landscape. And when it rains here, it pours.

I kid you not.

no wonder there's an expression that goes "...it's raining like a Monsoon out there" - yeah. right. Whoever came up with that crap has *never* been to Singapore and has never experienced rain like this.

This is not normal rain. This is rain of *biblical* proportions - think Noah and the Ark. I mean, a rainfall this heavy in any other country would result in floods, homeless refugees, civil disturbances and even mass extinction events.

But here it's normal and happens every other day. Like clockwork.

And the thunder - oh boy. Forget about the meek "boom" - or the 'boom-boom' you hear in electrical storms in other latitudes.

Here in Singapore a thunderclap is a 'KAAAAABOOOOM', in quadraphonic Dolby Surround, that lights up the night sky across the island and wakes you up in the middle of the night fearing for your life, thinking that, in fact, the Day of Judgement has arrived and you might not be saved.

The best thing is the beer after getting soaking wet.
